If you're new to fishing, we'll have bait and gear on hand and instructions to get you started. There's NO FEE, and all ages are welcome! Licenses are required for contestants over 16. Prizes will be awarded for LONGEST fish in each category, with both Carp and Gar qualifying for the competition - Buffalo are excluded. Registration begins at 8 am at the beach and fishing begins at the horn at 9 am. Measuring will run from 9 to 11:40 am (a horn will sound), and Prizes will be awarded at noon! Categories for prizes: Adults over 16, and Youth 13 and under. Fish must be caught on a hook (no snagging allowed), and you may fish anywhere around the lake except off the bridge. Boats may have electric motors only. Carp and Gar caught may be kept by the angler or donated onsite to feed eagles that are being rehabilitated from lead poisoning and other injury. The gar will be recycled as fertilizer in organic gardening. The Izaak Walton League was founded by anglers over 100 years ago. We are dedicated to healthy waters in the United States. There are too many Carp and Gar in Gray’s Lake. Removing some will improve the lake and the fishery.
